THE ATELIER
Atelier Filament is a private conservation company specializing in textiles, clothing, accessories, art, design objects, and home furnishings, including materials like natural and synthetic fibres, plastics, leathers, furs, and feather.
Nestled in the Outaouais hills, the atelier professionally documents, stabilizes, cleans, packs, and mounts objects for individuals, agencies, museums, and galleries. We also offer on-site services, including collection assessments, consultations, and training.
PRINCIPAL CONSERVATOR
Lauren Osmond is a conservator specializing in textiles and organic objects. She holds a Master of Art Conservation in Artifacts Conservation from Queen’s University, a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fibres and Material Practices from Concordia University, and a Fashion Design diploma from Blanche MacDonald. Lauren has held positions at institutions such as the Canadian Conservation Institute, Parks Canada, the Textile Museum of Canada, the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian, and the Victoria and Albert Museum. She has a background working with new media artists and is particularly interested in the complexities of caring for contemporary textile artworks, including electronic textiles. An active member of the Canadian Association for Conservation (CAC), Lauren has presented at annual conferences and is a founding member of the CAC’s (Re)conciliation Working Group.
